I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in my hometown of San Jose, CA. I attained both my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Masters in Counseling from John F. Kennedy University. Prior to entering the field of psychotherapy, I spent 12 years in Corporate Marketing, Communications, and HR project management. I have personal experience with stressors and issues impacting the corporate workforce, especially in Silicon Valley. My knowledge of the business world and psychotherapy allows me to connect with working professionals and couples who find it difficult to balance work and family life, while sustaining their mental health.
Within the field of psychotherapy, I have experience working in clinical and educational settings under the supervision of a highly skilled Satir-based professional where I managed a full caseload including gender/sexual identity, neurodiversity, kink interests/communities, addiction, sexual trauma, divorce/separation, anxiety/depression, grief/loss, women’s/men’s issues, spirituality, couple’s communication, pre-marital counseling, court mandated sessions, and general life transitions.
I helped develop a new PFLAG chapter in Beaverton, Oregon in 2015 which is proudly going strong. I am also an active transgender ally at local elementary and high schools, previously led a transgender youth/teen support group as well as a parent support group of transgender/non-binary youth, a public speaker on the topic of ‘the transgender spiritual journey’, and previously an LGBTQ board member at a global HR company. I am passionate about being a voice for transgender people in professional environments who are hesitant about coming out.
I am especially passionate about supporting individuals (children [from 3 years old], teens, and adults), couples, and families who are experiencing gender transition. This is a unique journey where psychotherapy can assist with supporting, exploring, encouraging, and providing additional resources during all stages of the transition process. I am well connected with Stanford Gender Clinic, UCSF Gender Clinic, and Kaiser gender department as well as local physicians and surgeons who directly support transgender clients. I am personally associated with the LGBTQ community, most specifically the transgender experience.
Neurodiversity (ASD, ADHD, 2E, etc.) significantly impacts all aspects of one's life but it does NOT define one's inherent sense of 'self.' Rather than conforming to societal standards, I work with individuals and families to expand the client's sense of autonomy, agency, social competence, and emotional intelligence. Helping neurodiverse clients to flex to various circumstances allows for greater success in executive functioning, academics, career, and social interactions. I also work closely with executive functioning coaches, educational consultants, school personnel, and medical professionals to provide comprehensive care for my patients.
I believe empowering, educating, mentoring, and guiding introspection are fundamental to a successful transition from IOP, PHP, residential treatment or wilderness programs. I provide consistent care to the support the whole-person and the family system to assist the client into reintegration into daily living. In addition, I engage with all providers (psychiatrists, psychologists, educational consultants, executive functioning coach, school, medical providers, etc.) to aid in the transition and integration process.
We are in an era of creative endeavors in our professional careers and while we are highly qualified for the hands-on work required to make a company successful, we may be challenged with stepping into the role of a Leader. How do you lead? Or rather, how do you WANT to lead? Developing our sense of self in the workplace is critical to long-term career growth.
From my work with transgender patients, I've encountered contentious family situations that have resulted in mandated therapy, requests to amend child custody arrangements, submitting materials to the Court, working with family court attorneys and reunification specialists as well as psychologists and minor counsel. Including, but not limited to gender affirming parenting, I also support minors in the general process of their family experiencing divorce and potential engagement with court proceedings.
My experience enables me to offer effective outpatient, individualized, psychological care. I treat a number of mental health disorders, and provide a neutral ground to individuals, families, and couples.
